INDEX OF MARRIAGE ANNOUNCEMENTS IN FOUR COLUMBIA COUNTY NEWSPAPERS

FROM 1901 TO 1936

To find a marriage announcement in this index, search either by the name of groom (last name first), name of the bride (last name first), or wedding date (year, month, day – 1905-07-13). The database includes the following categories: groom name, groom residence, bride name, bride residence, name of newspaper with the announcement, wedding date, date of announcement in newspaper, and notes. Listed in the notes are 263 divorces. Included in the "wedding date" category there are 108 entries of for dates from 1846 to 1900.

Newspapers included in this index:

Argus was a weekly published in Benton. Nearly all of the notices, with the exception of seven entries, are from the period 1910 to 1936. Within this time period there are some missing issues.

There are 3,502 marriage announcements.

Also included are two marriage announcements for Philip Young to Rachel Wilson in 1861 and William W. Fox’s wedding date in 1863.

There are five marriage announcements for October 2, 1901, February 24 and 26, 1903, October 7, 1903, and November 19, 1903.

Columbian was a weekly published in Bloomsburg.

There are 357 entries for this newspaper: 1902 – 195; 1903 – 10; 1904 – 2; 1905 – 110; 1906 – 1; 1907 – 37; 1908 – 1; and 1918 – 2.

The Morning Press was a daily (except Sunday) published in Bloomsburg.

There are 1,421 entries for the following years: 1902 – 12; 1903 – 466; 1905 – 3; 1911 – 1; 1918 – 119; 1920 – 1; 1921 – 468; 1922 – 352; 1925 – 3; 1926 – 2; 1927 – 2; 1929 – 1; 1930 – 1; and 1931 – 1.

Republican (Columbia Country Republican) was a weekly published in Bloomsburg.

There are 158 entries for the following three years: 1901 – 61; 1902 – 97; and 1903 – 1.
