LIGHTSTREET ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
The above photograph of the Lightstreet Elementary School built in
1892 was on Center Street, one block west of the old Lightstreet Road
(the main street through the village). It had two rooms with the first,
second, third and fourth grade students using the classroom on the east
side of the building. The four other classes, fifth, sixth, seventh, and
eighth, were in the room on the west side. Starting in 1930 the seventh
and eighth grade students went to school at Espy. A decade later the
school closed with all the children attending the Espy elementary
school.
The school in 1941 became the home for the Lightstreet Community Fire
Company after making some changes in the building which is still used
today.
