Bloomsburg Fair Grounds

September, 1900

This is how the Bloomsburg Fair appeared in 1900, looking from the south to
the north.  Its official name is "The Columbia County Agricultural,
Horticultural, and Mechanical Association."  The fair began in 1855 at Caleb
Barton's farm to the west of Bloomsburg on what is today part of the
fairgrounds.  The next two years, 1856 and 1857, the fair took place on the
land owned by Major Sloan in the general area of what is now Market, Fifth
and Sixth Streets.  Since 1858 it has been held at the west end of
Bloomsburg, the Barton farm, which became the permanent location.  This year
the Bloomsburg Fair will run from September 23rd to the 30th.
