VILLAGE OF MORDANSVILLE, MT. PLEASANT TOWNSHIP, COLUMBIA COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA

Mordansville, located along east bank of Little Fishing Creek, five miles north of Bloomsburg on the road to Millville which is now State Route 42, evolved from a saw mill established by John Mordan in the early nineteenth century. Joseph E. Sands and Thomas Mather started a successful woolen mill there in 1858. Changing ownership several times, it continued to operate until destroyed by fire in 1905. Sands who opened a store, was also instrumental in getting a post office established, originally called Bear Run. Years later, Harry W. Johnson, who purchased the Sands’ home converted it into a hotel. The Susquehanna, Bloomsburg & Berwick Railroad, completed in 1903, from Berwick to Watsontown, passed through the village.
