Myers, used to say that his father got sick 1 CONC went to the hospital, and died while in the hospital (Robert Packard 1 CONC Hospital, Sayre, Pa) so he refused to go to a Doctor for the rest of his 1 CONC life. He was true to his word and never did go to the doctors or a 1 CONC hospital until he passed on. His death was caused when he fell from the 1 CONC ladder as he was climbing on the roof of his camp at a lake in Oxford, NY 1 CONC when he was 82 years old. 1 CONT He worked at Goudy Station power plant (New York State Electric and Gas 1 CONC Corp) in Johnson City, New York for over 40 years until his retirement 1 CONC and received a gold watch when he reached 50 years as an employee (in 1 CONC retirement). 1 CONT Grandpa used to say that he was "Pennsylvania Dutch" and that the 1 CONC famous football player Harold "Red" Grange was his cousin. I always 1 CONC thought this was something he made up, but since I have been researching 1 CONC I have found that this was true! I know that he was a good athlete and 1 CONC played baseball on the town teams that were prevalent during 1920's, 1 CONC 1930's and 1940's around the Binghamton, NY area. Grandpa loved 1 CONC sports and used to watch baseball games all summer long. he loved to 1 CONC play catch with a baseball once in a while. The Aunt "Lib" is Elizabeth Margaret Hinkle Shaffer (the half 1 CONC sister of his grandfather John P. Myers), Aunt Sadie is "Red" Grange's 1 CONC mother, and Aunt Norma is "Red's" older sister. 1 CONT Dad tells some stories about Grandpa which are really funny. One 1 CONC time it seems they were riding in Grandpa's 'Humble along the Susquehanna 1 CONC River on the way to Masonville, NY to visit Grandpa Kishpaugh, when the 1 CONC wooden spoked wheel came off the car and rolled down into the creek. (I 1 CONC can see Grandpa cursing now!!!). He told us that they used to raise 1 CONC chickens at the Sanitaria Springs house. They would have chicken for 1 CONC dinner from time to time. It seems that Grandpa wanted to get one of the 1 CONC roosters for dinner one night and he could not catch the chicken. He 1 CONC picked up a brick to throw at him and missed and killed one of his prized 1 CONC hens! 1 CONT I remember many times when Grandpa used to talk about his 1 CONC grandfather Ira J, Sturdevant with great reverence. His father, Anthony and his grandfather 1 CONC Anthony before him, worked in the Morris Run Coal Mines in Tioga County, 1 CONC Pennsylvania. This is the address where my 1 CONC mother and her brothers and sisters remember living as children. My 1 CONC Uncle Warren Kolanda was born at the Endicott-Johnson Company Hospital in 1 CONC 1928. When the Great Depression deepened Grandpa lost his job at 1 CONC Endicott Johnson and the family moved to Mansfield, Pennsylvania to live 1 CONC with my grandmother's family which is where my mother, Elaine "Bernita" 1 CONC Kolanda was born. 1 CONT My grandfather became a carpenter after that and the family moved 1 CONC back to Johnson City, New York when my mother was a small child and lived 1 CONC at the same address . By 1940 my grandmother and grandfather Kolanda had 1 CONC purchased a home at 34 Munsell St, Binghamton, New York after having 1 CONC lived at 27 Munsell St. for several years. 1 CONT By the 1950's they had purchased land and my grandfather built a 1 CONC house on Jackson Rd (then Gahagan Road) Binghamton (Town of Binghamton). 1 CONC He gave a part of this land to my mother and father and my dad built the 1 CONC house, starting in 1958, where they still live. 1 CONT I used to go picking blue berries and black berries with my 1 CONC grandfather Kolanda a lot. What good times those were, talking and doing 1 CONC what one does with their grandfather. I was the best picker l was told. 1 CONC I WAS when I started to work on a vegetable farm at 14 years old! My 1 CONC sister Vickie and cousin Valerie, who was living with us, also worked on 1 CONC Fredericks vegetable farm the following year. 1 CONT I remember that grandpa raised chickens in a large coop behind his 1 CONC house when I was small. He built an addition and ended up with a large 1 CONC flock of chickens. All us kids use to go down to help him gather eggs 1 CONC and feed the chickens. When one of the roosters would get nasty and 1 CONC attack one of us grandpa would grab him and he would end up as Sunday 1 CONC dinner! I also remember that grandpa started raising pigs for all of 1 CONC us too. We would go pick up suckling piglets and he would raise them and 1 CONC then we would help butcher them in the fall when they were big. He use 1 CONC to get big bags of surplus milk and corn meal for them and I would help 1 CONC him feed those pigs. When the girls were little grandpa had three 1 CONC piglets he named, Vickie, Susie, and Valerie. The girls told him they 1 CONC could never eat them but he said that they would if they were hungry 1 CONC enough! 1 CONT I remember when I used to go down and mow their yard for them when I 1 CONC got older - I wouldn't take any money and he would get so mad at me he 1 CONC would throw a dollar bill at me and I would pick it up and go in a give 1 CONC it to grandma. She would give me a piece of pie or something to pay me. 1 CONT The last time I spoke with Grandpa Kolanda was in August or 1 CONC September 1974 just before they returned to Florida the last time. He 1 CONC was lying on the sofa at their home on Jackson Road taking a nap. We 1 CONC went in to say good bye because we were leaving to come back to Albany. 1 CONC I'll never forget what he said, "Don't ever say good bye, say See you 1 CONC another time". I believe that he knew he was dying. This same 1 CONC story has been a part of family tradition for several branches of the 1 CONC Kishpaugh family so I believe it to be true. Supposedly it was Simeon 1 CONC Kishpaugh who married a one half native American woman, Mary Ellen 1 CONC Nixon. Proving it may be very difficult however. One of Grandma's 1 CONC sisters, Lena died as an infant when grandma was only about 1-2 years 1 CONC old. Her older brother, Victor died in 1918 when he was 19 years old, 1 CONC during the worldwide influenza pandemic. This saddened her greatly for 1 CONC many years and she named her first born child, my dad, after him. Her 1 CONC brother was Victor Valentine Kishpaugh and she named my dad Victor Roy 1 CONC Myers. 1 CONT She use to tell dad that when she was young they would walk along the 1 CONC canal in Newton, New Jersey but that they had to watch for the 1 CONC cottonmouth snakes. Grandma was baptised in 1922 when she was 19 years 1 CONC old. 1 CONT After grandma's mother died in 1924, her father moved the family to 1 CONC Johnson City, New York where he went to work at the Endicott-Johnson Shoe 1 CONC factory. Grandma also worked at Endicott-Johnson and became friends with 1 CONC Daisy Lee, half sister to my grandfather Myers. Aunt Daisey is the one 1 CONC who introduced them in 1925 and they were married in 1926. They spent 1 CONC their honeymoon at her Aunt Margery Keeper's house in Newton, New 1 CONC Jersey. After they were married they lived with her father, George 1 CONC Kishpaugh in Johnson City. They eventually built a small two-room house 1 CONC up the street from his house and added a room as each of the kids was 1 CONC born and finally built a second floor on the house. Grandma told Linda 1 CONC Myers that they had the best water wqell on the street and all of the 1 CONC neighbors alwaya came over to get water from their well. 1 CONT Grandma ended up having 10 children, my dad being the oldest. She 1 CONC worked at Fairplay Carmel on Grand Blvd. in Johnson City, NY when dad was 1 CONC very young; and when they lived in Fairmont Park. For many years 1 CONC thereafter Grandma used to have flavored caramel 'suckers' for all of us 1 CONC kids whenever we visited. Grandpa used to bring them home to Sanitaria 1 CONC Springs weekly since he worked for the rest of his working life at the 1 CONC Goudey Station in Johnson City. 1 CONT I used to go almost every summer and stay at Grandma and Grandpa 1 CONC Myers house in Sanitaria Springs, New York. I remember playing with my 1 CONC brother Ted and cousin Jimmy Hoover in the creek down over the hill 1 CONC behind their house; we used to catch 'crabs' there. I also remember 1 CONC playing in the old cherry tree up behind where the barn used to be across 1 CONC the street. 1 CONT We used to go the their house often for Sunday dinner. I will never 1 CONC forget the sound of the pressure cooker going with the roast beef 1 CONC inside. Grandma used to have fresh homemade bread always too and 1 CONC 'farmer's' milk from the farm up the road in a big glass jar in the 1 CONC refrigerator. I remember the wrap around porch where we used to sit and 1 CONC play and the big pine trees in the front that we used to play hide and 1 CONC seek around. We would sometimes take hikes away across the field across 1 CONC from their house. There was another creek way up there that we would 1 CONC swim in. 1 CONT I also remember the time when I was about six when my brother Steve 1 CONC hit a bowl of hot tomato soup off the table and it flew all over my 1 CONC face. I had blisters for a couple of weeks and had to miss school. I 1 CONC remember having lots of pop-cycles that week. There was one time when 1 CONC me and Ted were playing in the old 'doodle-bug' parked across the street 1 CONC when a swarm of yellow-jackets came out from under the seat and stung him 1 CONC a BUNCH of times. Grandma made a bunch of mud and put it all over him. 1 CONC What wonderful times we all had up there. I never heard my Grandmother 1 CONC Myers ever say a bad thing about anybody. I don't ever remember her 1 CONC raising her voice to anyone either although I'm sure there were times 1 CONC when she did. She used to say, "If you can't say anything nice about 1 CONC someone, don't say anything". 1 CONT I remember when I went away to college and there was a one page 1 CONC write-up about me in the local sports magazine how proud she was. She 1 CONC cut it out and put it in her scrap book. When Grandpa Myers fell and 1 CONC was in the hospital for the first time in his life and Dad and all of his 1 CONC brothers and sisters were at the hospital and I was there too, Grandma 1 CONC called me in to talk with her. I was the only grandchild she asked what 1 CONC to do about allowing him to die peacefully or trying to keep him alive. 1 CONC I knew he hated doctors and would never want to spend time in the 1 CONC hospital and told her so. They disconnected him from all of the 1 CONC equipment and he died that night. She took me aside at her house 1 CONC after his death and hugged me and asked me to help her go through all of 1 CONC his bank books etc. The last time I saw her when she knew me was the 1 CONC night she had her last massive stroke. My brother Steve and I visited 1 CONC her in the hospital on our way back to Albany, NY. We had a great 1 CONC visit and she had the stroke about 2 hours later. In 1910 he lived with his family, including my 6 yeard old 1 CONC grandmother, at Shady lane, Newton, New Jersey. They were Baptists. 1 CONC They moved to Woodlawn Ave, Dover, in 1916 when grandma was 13 years old 1 CONC as she related to Linda Myers. In 1918 he and my great grandmother, 1 CONC Minerva, suffered the loss of the oldest child, Victor. Six years later 1 CONC Minerva died as well. My grandmother was only 21 when her mother died. 1 CONC She died in November 1924 and within a year George moved the family to 1 CONC Johnson City, New York so he could work at the Endicott-Johnson shoe 1 CONC factory. His brother Hezikiah moved his family there as well as did 1 CONC his sister Ida with her husband. 1 CONT Sometime during 1931George married his second wife, Phebe Sigler. 1 CONC Her first husband Jesse had died in 1930. Peg Keeper Beaty tells a 1 CONC story of how this happened. It seems that Phebe had gone out with 1 CONC George's yonger brother Ed. Ed and another brother, Hez. wrote a 1 CONC letter to Phebe and signed it George. Hez. said that he, George, 1 CONC wanted to go out with her. They ended up married. 1 CONT The families all lived on the same street near each other in an area 1 CONC of Johnson City called Fairmont Park from 1925 until 1933. Myers was born in Berwick, 1 CONC Pa. may be accurate based on the taxable list and census information 1 CONC available for his mother and father which show they were in Cherry 1 CONC Township, Sullivan County, Pa through the 1860 census. However, they 1 CONC may have moved to the Berwick, Pa. area after the 1862 assessments were 1 CONC done in January because John Myers does appear on them . Berwick is 1 CONC right across the Susquehanna River from Nescopek where they lived in 1 CONC 1870. Peter's father, John P. Myers lived in Cherry Township, Sullivan 1 CONC County, Pennsylvania at least as early as 1840 before he married 1 CONC Catherine [as it appears he did] and before 1850 when he appears to have 1 CONC been married to Caterine [or at least living with her]. John and Nancy 1 CONC do appear on the Cherry Township taxables in 1854 and stay on that list 1 CONC until at least 1862. John and Nancy also appear on the US Census 1 CONC records for 1860 in Cherry Township, Sullivan County, Pa. The family 1 CONC does not appear on the taxables in Cherry Twp., Sullivan County after 1 CONC 1862 or before 1880 when they re-appeared. The family did, however, 1 CONC appear on the 1870 Census in Nescopek, Luzerne County, Pa. This is two 1 CONC years after the death of Peter's Grandmother Mary Susanna Kennedy. The 1 CONC 1883 taxable for Cherry Township, Sullivan County, Pa. do list for the 1 CONC first time P. Mayer with 1 cow and his occupation as 'wagon maker' and a 1 CONC total valuation of $37. 1 CONT The following mention of Peter Myers was in the Sullivan 1 CONC Review, June 19, 1884: "A fatal and shocking accident occurred in Forks 1 CONC Twp. last Wednesday morning by which Reuben RINEBOLD lost his life. 1 CONC RINEBOLD, Philip SHAFER, Peter MEYERS and Curtis RUMSEY were engaged in 1 CONC peeling bark on the land of William LAMBERT. SHAFER and MEYERS were 1 CONC chopping down a tree while RUMSEY and RINEBOLD were spudding the bark 1 CONC form one already cut down. The tree, when about to fall, started in the 1 CONC direction of RINEBOLD and RUMSEY, contrary to the expectations of the 1 CONC choppers, who immediately gave warning to the men in danger, who ran at 1 CONC once. RUMSEY succeeded in escaping, but RINEBOLD, who ran in another 1 CONC direction, was caught by the limbs of the falling tree and so severely 1 CONC injured that he never regained consciousness, although he lived until 1 CONC about midnight. He leaves a wife and one child." 1 CONT I have just (November 29, 2002) made the connection to Philip Shafer - it 1 CONC has been staring at me for two years - he was the son of Peter's 1/2 Aunt 1 CONC Elizabeth Hinkle and therefore a 'cousin' of Peter. 1 CONT When I spent time with Lois Nichols and her husband Cliff on 1 CONC April 19, 2001, she told me that she had heard this story before. Peter 1 CONC was involved in the logging industry for many years as the above record 1 CONC relates. The family moved many times after 1905 in the spring of each 1 CONC year as they followed the logging trade. According to Doris Teeter 1 CONC McLinko Lee, her mother told of getting tired of moving every year when 1 CONC she was a child [probably an exageration]. We do know that they lived 1 CONC near LeRaysville, Pa about 1908 since this is where the post card photo 1 CONC of Peter working as a teamster and driving a team for the Johnson and Son 1 CONC Furniture store in LeRaysville was taken. This was verified by his 1 CONC daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Tuthill (Aunt Libby) in a 1977 article about 1 CONC crockinol board games which appeared in the local Rocket-Courier 1 CONC Newspaper. The photo was also re-printed in that article. 1 CONT Birth registry records show that they lived in Forks in 1894 1 CONC when Anna Lois was born, and in 1897 when Lucy E. was born, as well as in 1 CONC 1898 when Fannie E. was born. The census records for 1900 show that 1 CONC they were still living in Eldredsville, Forks, Sullivan County. 1 CONC Unfortunately I did not check the taxable for that town for 1900 to 1 CONC verify. We also know that in 1901 they lived in Eldredsville, Sullivan 1 CONC County and continued their at least until 1905 because I have annual 1 CONC assessment records showing them owning a house, 86 acres of land, a 1 CONC horse, a cow, and a dog each year. 1 CONT Peter's Uncle George Y. Myers and half Uncle, Philip Hinkle 1 CONC bought and owned land in Dushore during 1858 and his father and mother, 1 CONC John P. and Nancy Myers lived in Cherry Township, Sullivan County from 1 CONC around 1855 until 1862, and then in Forks from 1880-1883, after which 1 CONC they no longer appear on the taxable lists. They appear on the 1880 1 CONC Census for Forks Township with Peter N, the only child living at home 1 CONC still. Brother Thomas seems to have been killed in 1883*. So, the 1 CONC entire family had been in the area for many years. Thomas died in April 1 CONC 1883 possibly leaving only Peter living in Forks with his parents [Thomas 1 CONC did NOT appear on the census]. If they (or at least John) decided to 1 CONC leave and go to California to be with daughter Mary and her family, this 1 CONC could be the reason for the falling out that eventually lead Peter to 1 CONC tell everyone his father was Elmer Edgar Myers as it states on his death 1 CONC certificate. 1 CONT Dr. Robert Campbell had a photo sent to Peter Myers that was taken 1 CONC in San Jose, California and sent to "Bro Peter". Maybe John P. and 1 CONC Nancy (or at least) John P. went to California during or after 1882 when 1 CONC they disappeared from the Forks Township tax records. According to 1 CONC people who had seen the photo, the man in the photo looked like Peter! 1 CONT Peter N. Myers was first married to Maria Olyphant on May 10, 1 CONC 1886. There was some family tradition which held this to be so. Lois 1 CONC Nichols stated to me that she had heard this story as did Doris Lee. 1 CONC Edmund Myers Sr. grandson, Mike Bates and his wife found the original 1 CONC marriage certificate for this marriage in the papers of Edmond's daughter 1 CONC Florence Myers Bates Conklin. There is nothing known of this woman or 1 CONC this marriage except the date. Peter had just recently turned 22 years 1 CONC old at the time. 1 CONT Peter was then married to Sarah Blance (I think it was Blance) 1 CONC about 1892-93. The MT. Zion church in Briggsville/Necopeck, 1 CONC Pennsylvania, under the Pastor W. D. Donat's church records, Book Two, 1 CONC lists: a Baptism for Peter N. Myers and his wife Sarah Blance, for 1 CONC Florence Blance Myers who was born on February 24, 1893, and baptized on 1 CONC October 15, 1893. This is the town in Luzerne County where the 1 CONC Myers/Kishbaugh family lived. Peter's aunt (his father's sister) Lavina 1 CONC Myers Kishbaugh and her husband Jacob Kishbaugh were members of this 1 CONC church for about 50 years. Mt. Zion Church records show that both Sarah 1 CONC and Florence Myers were buried at the church cemetery as were Lavina and 1 CONC Jacob Kishbaugh; Lavina, John P. and Peter Myers' mother Mary Susanna 1 CONC Payne Myers Hinkle Kennedy, and the aforementioned Peter Myers and some 1 CONC of his family. Doris Teeter Mclinko Lee tells a story of how her 1 CONC Grandpa Myers (Peter) had been married and how his wife and baby daughter 1 CONC died of Typhoid fever. Her grandmother Lucy Myers (my Great grandmother) 1 CONC used to tell of how Grandpa Myers (Peter) kept a suitcase with a pair of 1 CONC baby shoes inside which he had for many years. It was believed they were 1 CONC from his baby daughter who had died even though he never talked about 1 CONC that wife or that daughter to his family. Lois Nichols said that she 1 CONC had heard from her mother when she was a child, that Peter had been 1 CONC married two times before he married Lucy. 1 CONT Peter N. Myers married Lucy Sturdevant in 1894, four months 1 CONC after this other wife's death. Nothing else is known of Sarah, his first 1 CONC wife. He worked in the logging/lumbering industry for some years we 1 CONC know because of the family stories of them moving year after year 1 CONC following the lumbering. He also worked as a mason and a teamster. On 1 CONC April 12, 1894 Peter had mail still at the Lopez Post Office as the 1 CONC following notation shows: "The following is the list of letters 1 CONC remaining uncalled for in the post office at Lopez for the month ending 1 CONC March 31, 1894 ........ Peter Meyer...." 1 CONT There is a notation in the Sullivan Review, August 9, 1894, for 1 CONC Millview which states: "Twp large rattlesnakes were killed on J.K. Bird's 1 CONC farm and W. Rinebold and Peter Meyers killed one near D.T. Huckell's 1 CONC recently." This was a few months after Peter had married Lucy lee. 1 CONT My Grandfather, Theodore R. Myers used to say that his father got 1 CONC sick, went to the Robert Packard hospital in Sayre, Pennsylvania became 1 CONC even more sick and died while in the hospital. He was only 16 years old 1 CONC and always said that the doctors killed his dad. Therefore, Grandfather 1 CONC refused to go to a Doctor for the rest of his Iife, and he never did. 1 CONT 1 CONT Much special thanks to Lois Painter Nichols for all of the many photos of 1 CONC Peter and Lucy Myers and other family members and the copies of "The 1 CONC Naughty Tango" sheet music as well and to Doris Lee for all of her help 1 CONC in traipsing around Bradford and Sullivan County for/with me - and for a 1 CONC place to stay when I visited the area. 1 CONT * See the listing for Thomas and the newspaper clipping from Joyce 1 CONC Tice's Tri-County Genealogy Site and the Rhoda English-Ladd newspaper 1 CONC clipping collection at the Tioga County Historical Society. 0 @I0143@ INDI 1 NAME Sarah /Blance/ 2 SOUR @S002331@ 3 DATA 4 TEXT Date of Import: Aug 23, 2002 2 SOUR @S002331@ 3 DATA 4 TEXT Date of Import: Jan 4, 2003 1 SEX F 1 BIRT 2 DATE 27 APR 1851 2 SOUR @S002331@ 3 DATA 4 TEXT Date of Import: Aug 23, 2002 2 SOUR @S002331@ 3 DATA 4 TEXT Date of Import: Jan 4, 2003 1 DEAT 2 DATE 8 DEC 1893 2 PLAC Nescopek, Columbia, Pennsylvania 2 SOUR @S002331@ 3 DATA 4 TEXT Date of Import: Aug 23, 2002 2 SOUR @S002331@ 3 DATA 4 TEXT Date of Import: Jan 4, 2003 1 BURI 2 DATE 13 DEC 1893 2 PLAC Mt Zion Cemtery, Nescopek, Pennsylvania 2 SOUR @S002331@ 3 DATA 4 TEXT Date of Import: Aug 23, 2002 2 SOUR @S002331@ 3 DATA 4 TEXT Date of Import: Jan 4, 2003 1 FAMS @F0076@ 1 NOTE @NI0143@ 0 @NI0143@ NOTE 1 CONC [Myers Family Tree.FTW] 1 CONT 1 CONT [Myers Family Tree.FTW] 1 CONT 1 CONT Sarah and their daughter Florence Blance both died of Typhoid fever 1 CONC in 1893. In fact there was a 1 CONC watercolor portrait done of her before she married. This is currently 1 CONC (April 2001) owned by Lois Painter Nichols. Lucy E. was married for 1 CONC the first time at 24 years old to Mark Lee. They had four children over 1 CONC a five years time. Within 6 months of their son's birth in July 1890, 1 CONC Mark was killed in a railroad accident and she was left with no visible 1 CONC means of support. Not much has been passed down about that time in her 1 CONC life and the difficulties she must have faced. 1 CONT In March 1894, just over three years later, she married Peter 1 CONC N. Myers. The March 15, 1894 issue of the Sullivan Review Newspaper 1 CONC notes: "A quilting party, Wednesday last, at Lucy Lee's." This was about 1 CONC 10 days before she married Peter Myers - maybe it was a celebration of 1 CONC the ladies prior to the wedding. They then migrated southwest about 15-20 miles to Dushore, 1 CONC Cherry Twp. after his step-father's death and they were in the Dushore 1 CONC area by the time the 1840 Census was taken. 1 CONT John Myers may have been married first to Catherine as he is shown 1 CONC on page 696 of the 1850 US Census,Cherry Twp, Sullivan County, Pa with 1 CONC her, and her last name is listed as Myers. They are listed as family 1 CONC number 241 but there are also three small Rollins Children who are all 1 CONC under 9 years old and one named Barbary Ann Smitten who was 10 years 1 CONC old. These children could not have been hers. Possibly they are all 1 CONC siblings and a cousin of Catherine. There are other Rollins families in 1 CONC the census as well. John's wives, Nancy and Catherine could not be the 1 CONC same women as Catherine would have been shown as 1 year older than John 1 CONC on the Census as she was on all of the later ones which John and Nancy 1 CONC appeared on together. 1 CONT The fact that John is shown as 27 on September 17, 1850, when the US 1 CONC Census was recorded for John and Catherine helps narrow his birth date as 1 CONC after September in 1822. 1 CONT In any case, John and Nancy Myers were married sometime prior to or 1 CONC during 1851 because their daughter Sarah was born in 1852. He was 30 1 CONC years old at the time of her birth and it makes sense that he would have 1 CONC been married before that age. They would have established themselves by 1 CONC that time in Sullivan County although not as property owners. 1 CONT John Myers is listed on the recently discovered 1849 1 CONC taxable/assessment books for Cherry Twp, Sullivan County, Pa. as no 1 CONC longer living with his mother and as having taxable property of one cow 1 CONC worth $10, and in 1850 - one cow worth $12. The 1851 and 1852 taxables 1 CONC lists have John Meyer(s) with one cow worth $10. The 1849 assessment 1 CONC list gives credance to the belief that he may have been married since he 1 CONC had his own household and was taxed separately. 1 CONT John Myers is listed in the 1854 taxable for Cherry Township, 1 CONC Sullivan County, Pa as having 1 cow worth $10.50 and as being in the 1 CONC Militia. He is also listed in the 1857 taxable list as having one cow 1 CONC worth $10.00. In 1861 he is shown with two cows for a total $20 1 CONC assessment. This remains the same for most of the years through 1864. 1 CONC John P. and Nancy Myers were listed in the 1860 Census as living in in 1 CONC Cherry Township, Sullivan County, Pennsylvania. Sometime between 1860 1 CONC and 1870 they moved back to Nescopeck, Pa., probably early in 1862 since 1 CONC family tradition holds that son, Peter Nathaniel Myers was born in 1 CONC Berwick, directly accross the Susquehanna River from Nescopek. If they 1 CONC did move in 1862, it would have been after the taxables were done for the 1 CONC year in January, since they were still in Cherry Twp, Sullivan County at 1 CONC that date. 1 CONT In 1870 they were living in Nescopeck Post Office area, Nescopeck, 1 CONC Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. John is shown as a teamster and Nancy as 1 CONC keeping house and on this census son Peter N. Myers was listed as 8 years 1 CONC old (his gravestone list his birth date as 1860) but we now know it was 1 CONC 1862. I have recently discovered an old map of Nescopeck Village from 1 CONC 1873 which has a house lot with the name John Myers on it; they were 1 CONC living on Turnpike St. just East of Broad St. 1 CONT Probably sometime late in 1879 the family moved back to Sullivan 1 CONC County because John P. Myers is shown in the 1880 Census as being in the 1 CONC Township of Forks Drop, Sullivan County, Pennsylvania and as a 58 year 1 CONC old laborer. His wife Nancy was listed as a 59 year old house keeper. 1 CONC The only child still living at home was Peter N. Myers age 19, who was 1 CONC also a laborer. John P. Myers is also listed on the triennial 1 CONC assessments in 1880 for Forks Twp., Sullivan County, Pa. which were 1 CONC traditionally completed in January of each year. I find no listing 1 CONC after 1882 for John P. Myers in the Forks or Cherry Townships, Sullivan 1 CONC County taxables. The 1883 listing has his name, John P. Myers, crossed 1 CONC out after it was written. Son Thomas died oin April 1883 possibly 1 CONC leaving only son, Peter N. Myers living in Forks with them. If they (or 1 CONC at least John) decided to leave and go to California to be with daughter 1 CONC Mary and her family, this could be the reason for the falling out that 1 CONC eventually lead Peter to tell everyone his father was Elmer Edgar Myers 1 CONC as it states on his death certificate. All of the Luzerne County and Bradford County Histories 1 CONC from the 1870's - 1890's have biographical information on the family of 1 CONC Peter Myers, John P. In these 1 CONC histories there are statements taken at a time when the people who would 1 CONC know were still living, that Daniel Myers died and was buried in Mifflin 1 CONC Township, Columbia County, PA. There are only three Cemeteries in 1 CONC Mifflin Township. The Brown Cemetery (likely the old Mifflinville 1 CONC Cemetery), the Creasey Family Cemetery. and the Mt Zion Church Cemetery 1 CONC (which is in Briggsville, Nescopek not Mifflin Township). The Creasey 1 CONC family Cemetery has almost exclusively members of that family. The Mt 1 CONC Zion Cemetery is well documented (and not as old as the Brown Cemetery). 1 CONC The so called Brown Cemetery is by far the oldest Cemetery, with several 1 CONC Revolutionary war soldiers buried there. It has numerous field stone 1 CONC markers and many missing markers. As one goes toward the back of the 1 CONC cemetery the stones seem to get earlier. There is a field stone one in 1 CONC the very South Western corner with the name worn off (If it was ever 1 CONC there) but with the clearly chiseled date " 11 8 182_ ". This 1 CONC could very well be a likely date when Daniel died (11th August, 1825? - 1 CONC at least it gives me hope!!!)). A distant cousin, Hope Ziegler 1 CONC relates that family tradition holds that Daniel is buried in the Nescopek 1 CONC Cemetery, which I have learned is what Mt. Mary Susanna 1 CONC Myers re-married, to Jacob Hinkle, and they had Elizabeth Margaret on 1 CONC December 11, 1829, just two years later. 1 CONT Henry Myers' deposition for his Revolutionary War Soldiers Pension 1 CONC application states that he was born in Bucks County, Pennsylvania and 1 CONC went to Hunterdon County, New Jersey, Lebanon Township some time after 1 CONC and that he subsequently went to Columbia County, Pennsylvania in 1805. 1 CONC The 1810 US Census has Henry Moyer in Northumerland County, 1 CONC Mifflin/Catawissa Twp. again with the correct number of children 1 CONT Daniel Mayers is listed on the 1811 Mifflin Township annual taxable 1 CONC List, he would have been 20 years old. 1 CONT Daniel Neyer is listed under the "N's" in the 1816 Annual Taxable, 1 CONC Catawissa Township, list with " 60 acres , 0 horses, 4 cattle, real 1 CONC $143, personal $20, occupation farmer. 1 CONT Daniel Myers is listed in the 1821 Annual Taxable list as no 1 CONC acreage, 2 horses, 1 cattle. 1 CONT Daniel Myers is listed in the 1822 Annual Taxable with 50 acres, 1 CONC 1 horses, 1 cattle 1 CONT _____ Mayer (Mayen) is listed in the 1824 Annual Taxable with 50 1 CONC acres, 2 horses, and 2 cattle. 1 CONT Daniel (F. or T.) Moyers or Myers is listed on the 1825 Annual 1 CONC Taxable with 50 acres (crossed out), 2 horses, 2 cattle. 1 CONT Daniel Moyens or Myers in the Triennial Taxable list of 1826 is shown 1 CONC on lands of (J. Creasy?) with the notation " dead, to be charged to A. 1 CONC Ludwig' 1 horse, 2 cattle - farmer. It is not currently known why he 1 CONC is not listed on the taxable lists of the missing years. 1 CONT There are references to the fact that Daniel died after being struck 1 CONC by lightening during a thunderstorm while out in one of the fields. Dr. 1 CONC Robert Campbell , a great grandson, several times stated that he had seen 1 CONC a newspaper clipping that stated that Daniel died when he was 36 years 1 CONC old. This would make the year as 1827 for when he died, but this seems 1 CONC rather unlikely because his name is crossed out on the 1826 taxable 1 CONC assessments and he is listed as dead. These were usually taken in 1 CONC January of the year. It is presumed that he died in late summer. As 1 CONC was the case in those times Mary Susanna re-married fairly quickly. She 1 CONC had four small children to support. The family stayed in the 1 CONC Mifflinville area for many years, or migrated north into Sullivan and 1 CONC Bradford Counties and then returned to this area later in life. 1 CONT 1 CONT Winifred Myers Love also stated that Daniel served in the War of 1 CONC 1812. She has him listed on Page 31 of the Muster Roll of Pennsylvania 1 CONC as a Private serving under Captain John Beuhlerm 3rd regiment, 1st 1 CONC Brigade under Colonel Lafener; serving October 24, 1814 to December 5, 1 CONC 1814. He was 23 years old at the time. This Daniel Myers lived to 1852 1 CONC so it can not be ours. Most of the rest of the info from Winifred for 1 CONC Henry and before is not correct! 1 CONT 1 CONT Much of the tax records come from Mary Kishbaugh Hunsinger via 1970's 1 CONC notes from a Mr. Harding (he researched for Mildred Davis Myers of 1 CONC Moravia, NY) and from Winifred Myers Love through Hope Zeigler. During 1 CONC my last trip to Pennsylvania during August 2002 I researched and made 1 CONC copies of all of the taxable records for myself and verified this 1 CONC information as correct. 0 @I0157@ INDI 1 NAME Mary Susanna /Payne/ 2 SOUR @S001688@ 3 DATA 4 TEXT Susanna Hinkle is listed as the head of the household in this listing.
