CommentsMy 12th generation Grandfather was Johann Peter Appleman married to Anna Magdalena (Diekerhoff) Appleman. There is confusion with the Pickel family concerning the true wife of Johann. They list Anna Magdalena Pickel as Johann's wife which is incorrect. I have verification that Diekerhoff is definitely correct and Pickel is wrong. The genealogists who did the research in 1964 and 1971 were wrong.Reggie Rieth rcrcmv@cs.com--4400 Lanette, Waterford, Mi. 48328---248 682-2176 after May 10,2000

I am researching a John George HEIMBACH born Wurttemberg, Germany, Aug 1821/22, married (1) Regina,(2) Barbara E (Held?); children: JC b 1848, Mary b 1850, Fred RD b 1852, Caroline b 7 Sept 1857, Matilda (Tillie) b 7 July 1859, Rachel b Sept 1860, Joseph Francis b 1864 and George A b 1868. CommentsThe following is a response to a very good suggestion. I wanted to pass it on to all. Bob, Searching the data base is quite flexible but intended to be restrictive. An entry in a field will produce a result if the field "CONTAINS" that entry. For instance, I did a query with just the letter "K" entered in the last name. It produced 120 pages of names that "CONTAINED" the letter "K" I suggest that you keep trying different combinations until you are satisfied that you have searched completely. The society has had much debate about how to make content available and how much to make available without membership. they are also concerned about folks violating copyright by redistirbuting our content. This is the reason for restricting the output of this valuable database. We are intending to put more searchable databases up in the future. The first of these will probably be one of the cemeteries with complete burial information. Thanks so much for visiting us and giving us your input. It is of great value. Please let me know if I can be of further service and don't hesitate to pass on your suggestions. Steve Varonka, Webmaster. ----- Original Message ----- From: Robert Hauver To: webmaster@colcohist-gensoc.org Sent: Monday, July 03, 2000 6:50 night Subject: New Marriage/Death Database
I think this is a great tool that you have installed, however, in my initial searches I could not find any of my relatives. I would find it helpful if it were possible to search the entire database and display those names that begin with a particular letter or name, such as all the entries starting with a "K". This would give me a list of anyone entered so that I could determine if there was a spellin problem, etc. Perhaps this is possible now, but I did not see how that could be done. Please let me know if this type of search is possible, and if not are there plans to add on to the search capabilities. Thanks. Bob Hauver
CommentsSearching databases. The search screens do accept wild card searches. For instance, entering "Ki*" in the last name produces 120 names beginning with "Ki". Using "Ki$" produces one name ending in "ki". I just found this myself. Sorry Bob but I should have experimented more before I replied to your e-Mail. Steve Varonka, Webmaster P.S. - I will update the pages as soon as possible. Thanks to Bob Hauver for the suggestion.
CommentsI think you all have done a terrific job on putting this information together. Ernie Olson erolson@mindspring.com
CommentsCongratulations to the Columbia County Historicl and Genealogical Society for its arrival on the web. I know a lot of thought and planning went into the production of this site, and it is nice to see a local historical society carve out its presence on the web. I especially like the monthly photograph and the essay section. I enjoyed the description of the 2nd Fair held in Bloomsburg. Good luck and continued success. CommentsNeat site so far. Haven't had time to fully explore it but all good things take time. Researching the following: Cool Hoagland/Hogeland Drumheller Searfoss Also am interested in what I think was a tannery operation before 1900 through it's demise that was in Jamison City, or somewhere in the surrounding vicinity. Is anyone cognizant of this operation? In 1995 when I visited Pine Grove Cemetery in Berwick looking for graves, I was shown an old style green ledger book by the caretakers/gravediggers that listed all burials by year. Does anyone know if this is still in existence and is it available to have data transcribed out of it.At the time it was kept in the little caretaker house inside the cemetery or at least that's where they went to get it. mxradar@aol.com Gene in Bremerton, Washington

CommentsOn a visit to Greenwood Township and Berwick, family members showed my mom & I the featured March, 2001 photo of the Lime Rdge Band. The man sitting to the left of the man holding the large saxaphone is my grandfather, Alvin Boone. My mother, Grace Boone Karschner, lives in Manchester Township, Ocean County , NJ. Her siblings were Mick, Carl, Arlene, Lydie Ruth, Orval, Vivian, Pearl & Ted. My Aunt Vivian Boone Cromer lives in Berwick and has the protrait of my grandfather in the same uniform, probably taken at the same time. Although there was some discussion among the surviving children (Grace, Orval, Ted, Vivian & Pearl)as to wheteher this was Alvin Boone, the portrait photo in Vivian's living room was the clincher. Enjoyed your site. Hope to visit again soon. -Terry Karschner, New Jersey Historic Preservation Office
