It will be a roast turkey dinner, served family style. Dinner reservations, $12.00 per person, are required, and must be paid by April 12. The public is invited to attend the dinner and/or the program. After the dinner there will be a short business meeting followed by the program. Please use the form at the bottom of the sheet to make a dinner reservation. PROGRAMTHE SUSQUEHANNA RIVERA WARTIME HISTORYJack Brubaker is an author and a newspaper columnist for the Lancaster New Era. His most recent book, Down the Susquehanna to the Chesapeake, was published in 2002. In his illustrated talk, he will explore the military history of Pennsylvania's largest river, the Susquehanna. Beginning with the French and Indian War in the mid-1700s, when British forces strategically located forts along the river's banks, to the Revolutionary War, when General John Sullivan's Susquehanna expedition. in 1779. struck a potent blow for the Continental Army, to the Civil War, when Union soldiers on June 28, 1863, burned the Susquehanna Bridge between Wrightsville and Columbia forcing General John B. Gordon�s brigade of Confederate troops to turn west toward Gettysburg. The river has played an important role in Pennsylvania history. The public is cordially invited to attend this free program sponsored by the Pennsylvania Humanities Council, supported in part by a grant from the Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission. It will begin at 7:30 pm. The Ridge Street United Methodist Church in Almedia can be easily reached from Bloomsburg by either taking U.S. Route 11 or the Old Berwick Road to turn on Ridge Street which intersects with both routes. It is approximately 3.3 miles east from the corner of East Street and U.S. Route 11 in Bloomsburg.
